Sustainable South Seattle

Sustainable South Seattle (S3) is a volunteer-run organization working to promote sustainability in Seattle's south-end communities. We've defined sustainability as living in a manner that allows current and future generations of all life on Earth to thrive.

We design and implement projects to preserve the diversity of our community's businesses and residents, increase transit and transportation choices in our neighborhoods and to provide outreach and education about environmental, social and economic choices that enhance our community.

Here's an example of a new blog post.

It's basically a new wiki-page, and members can come back later and edit it.

The way it's arranged now, a new edit will bring the blog entry back to the top of the list. It's also possible to arrange blog entries by the original date posted.

free stuff Sunday

Sunday 8/10, Columbia City, hosted by Sustainable South Seattle

Why go shopping when you can get what you need for free?

Sunday, August 10th, members of the Columbia City neighborhood will be putting out their unwanted household and garden items for free in front of their homes for you to pick up and take to your home.

Come on down to South Seattle and help us keep our perfectly good items from ending up in a landfill. A map of the houses participating is below.

One person's trash is another person's treasure!

— Are you a Columbia City Neighborhood resident (between Genesee & Orcas, MLK & Lake Washington) who wants to clean out their garage and put stuff out for free?

For people who are interested, please send email to moc.erahspleh|mat#moc.erahspleh|mat with the following info:

  • Name
  • Address
  • General idea of the stuff you are getting rid of (kids, furniture, appliances, garden, clothes, books…)
  • Interest in having the remainder hauled away (yes/no) assuming we can get the services organized.

  • We had a very successful Climate Action Lab at New Freeway Hall where 70 participants participated in activist training and action oriented break-out groups. Senator Klein gave us the inside scoop for lobbying Legislators in Olympia. Thanks for Michael Murphy for superb organizing skills and his dedication to S3.
  • The Seattle Dept of Transportation has contacted S2 about a triangle of public right-of-way near Rainier and that is undeveloped and could be a brilliant community space. New pedestrian amenities are planned nearby as well as a family services center. I Let me know if you or anyone else you know may want to take initiative on this project.
  • Stay tuned for more information about a possible Car Free Sunday in South Seattle!
